REVIEW: 2018 Gasoline by Wild America

Wild America is a young American band that works in heavy rock similar to what was done in the 1990s, that is to say in the lineage of Tattoo Rodeo, Tora Tora or XYZ. This gives a mix of rock headlines full of groove, huge riffs, saturated, which bloom good blues and boogie as on the excellent "Long Road" that opens hostilities or the eponymous "Gasoline". Suffice to say that this album is intended for those who have hard rock haired to the body. Because Wild America knows how to write devilishly effective songs, fed both arena rock and blues rock. Thus, the mid-tempo "Rockstar" is based on an effective chorus, intended to be repeated in chorus. Supported by a warm organ that colors the whole, it has the effect of a melodic bomb sending us back to the last century.
Wild America also knows how to calm the game, offering us moments full of feeling, such as the ballad "Something Inside" sung with two voices.
Reconnected with the great moments of American heavy rock, the band is part of a timeless trend and proves that it is kneaded with talent. His knowledge of American music is evident, as evidenced by "Til the End", another southern rock ballad, with contributions from country music, on which Joe Labbadia's singing knows how to be enchanted.
The blues is full of skin, the quartet takes the listener by the feelings, with the lyric "She Will" that could have been written by Nickleback. The mix between acoustic and electric guitars works perfectly, while the chorus makes you want to sing loudly. Healing its arrangements, Wild America also distills touches of Little Caesar soul on the amazing "Bleed", illuminated by a beautiful solo.
With this first album, Wild America is part of the good surprises of 2019, since the self-produced group has signed with Kivel Records. This mix of melodies and power should delight lovers of organic and sincere music. Listen to "Maybe Tonight" to understand what the band is capable of offering us. And for those who think it's impossible to infuse unifying melodies and refrains into hard rock, put "Is Anybody Listening" and you'll understand that it's possible, because this title is a real bombshell.

Wild America est un jeune groupe américain qui œuvre dans un heavy rock proche de ce qui se faisait dans les années 1990, c’est-à-dire dans la lignée de Tattoo Rodeo, Tora Tora voire XYZ. Cela donne un mélange de gros titres rock bourrés de groove, aux riffs énormes, saturés, qui fleurent bon le blues et le boogie comme sur les excellents « Long Road » qui ouvre les hostilités ou l’éponyme « Gasoline ». Autant dire que cet album est destiné à ceux qui ont le hard rock chevillé au corps. Car Wild America sait écrire des titres diablement efficaces, nourris aussi bien à l’arena rock qu’au blues rock. Ainsi, le mid-tempo « Rockstar » s’appuie sur un refrain efficace, destiné à être repris en chœur. Soutenu par un orgue chaud qui colore l’ensemble, il fait l’effet d’une bombe mélodique nous renvoyant au siècle dernier.
Wild America sait aussi calmer le jeu, en nous offrant des moments pleins de feeling, telle que la ballade « Something Inside » chantée à deux voix. Renouant avec les grands moments du heavy rock américain, le groupe s’inscrit dans un courant atemporel et nous prouve qu’il est pétri de talent. Sa connaissance de la musique américaine est évidente, comme le prouve « Til the End », une autre ballade southern rock, aux apports issus de la country music, et sur laquelle le chant de Joe Labbadia sait se faire enjôleur. Le blues à fleur de peau, le quatuor prend l’auditeur par les sentiments, avec le lyrique « She Will » qui aurait pu être écrit par Nickleback. Le mélange entre guitares acoustiques et électriques fonctionne à merveille, alors que le refrain donne envie de chanter à tue-tête. Soignant ses arrangements, Wild America distille également des touches de soul à la Little Caesar sur l’étonnant « Bleed », illuminé par un beau solo.
Avec ce premier album, Wild America s’inscrit dans les bonnes surprises de cette année 2019, puisque le groupe autoproduit a signé avec Kivel Records. Ce mélange de mélodies et de puissance devrait ravir les amateurs de musique organique et sincère. Ecoutez « Maybe Tonight » pour comprendre ce que le groupe est capable de nous proposer. Et pour ceux qui pensent qu’il est impossible d’insuffler des mélodies et des refrains fédérateurs dans du hard rock, mettez « Is Anybody Listening » et vous comprendrez que c’est possible, car ce titre est une véritable bombe.
